# Replay

The replay gives people who missed the session, or left early, a second chance to see your pitch. A deadline keeps that chance worth acting on. Set it up under **Webinars → your webinar → Set up → Replay**.

The replay is the same video as the session, with the same offers, polls and handouts appearing at the same moments. Each person watches on their own personal link. There is no public replay page, so only people who registered can watch.

## Replay settings

| Setting | What it does | Default | Limits |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| **Replay enabled** | Lets attendees and no-shows watch after the session ends. | On | |
| **Available after** | Minutes to wait after the session ends before the replay opens. `0` opens it straight away. | 0 | 0 to 10,080 (7 days) |
| **Expiry** | When the replay closes: **A number of hours after each session**, **A fixed date and time** or **Never expires**. | A number of hours after each session | |
| **Replay window** | How many hours the replay stays open. Shown with the hours option. | 72 | 1 to 8,760 (1 year) |
| **Expires at** | The date and time the replay closes for every session, in the webinar's timezone. Shown with the fixed date option. | Empty | Required for that option, while replay is on |
| **Lock player controls** | Replay viewers can play and pause, but can't skip forward or back. See [Lock the player](#lock-the-player). | Off | |
| **Show chat on replay** | Plays your scheduled chat in time with the video. See [Choose whether chat plays](#choose-whether-chat-plays). | On | |

Click **Save changes** to apply them, or **Discard** to go back to the last saved version. On a wide screen the preview beside the form shows the replay room. On a smaller screen, use the **Preview** button.

## Lock the player

Turn on **Lock player controls** when you want people to watch the replay through rather than jump to the pitch. Viewers get play and pause, mute, captions, fullscreen and a progress bar they can't drag. They can't seek in either direction, forward or back.

- A large play button shows over the video whenever a locked replay is paused.
- Someone who reaches the end can watch again from the start.
- This is a player restriction, not copy protection. The video file itself isn't hidden.

## Choose whether chat plays

With **Show chat on replay** on, your scheduled chat plays in time with the video. It also needs **Include scheduled chat** on under [Chat & questions](/webinars/chat-questions). With either one off, the replay has no chat.

When there's no chat, the chat tab is removed from the replay. Polls stay visible, above whichever tab is open, and Q&A and Resources aren't affected. If there are no tabs and no poll, the panel beside the video is hidden and the video takes the full width. If an offer appears later, the panel returns.

Replays only ever have scheduled chat, never shared or private chat, and there's no message box.

## Decide when the replay closes

- **A number of hours after each session** suits evergreen webinars. Every session gets its own deadline, so urgency stays real however long the webinar runs. The default of 72 hours gives people a weekend's worth of room without letting the decision drift.
- **A fixed date and time** suits a launch with one real closing date. The same moment applies to every session, so a session ending after that date gets no replay at all. A date in the past closes the replay straight away, which is also a way to close it on purpose.
- **Never expires** suits content you want people to be able to return to. You lose the deadline as a reason to act.

### How the replay window is counted

The window starts when the replay opens, not when the session ends. With **Available after** at 60 minutes and **Replay window** at 72 hours, the replay closes 73 hours after the session ends.

### Set a fixed date

Choose **A fixed date and time** and fill in **Expires at**. The time you type is in the webinar's timezone, which the description under the field names, and attendees see it in their own time. To change that timezone, use **Fixed timezone** under [Details](/webinars/details#choose-how-times-are-shown).

The time is stored as an exact moment, so changing the webinar's timezone later doesn't move it. The field then shows the same moment on the new zone's clock.

| Message | What to do |
| --- | --- |
| "Choose the date and time the replay closes." | Fill in **Expires at**, or choose another **Expiry**. |
| "Enter a valid date and time." | The value can't be read. Pick it again. |
| "That time doesn't exist in America/New York because the clocks change. Pick another time." | The time is skipped by a clock change, in the zone named. Choose another. A time that happens twice uses the first one. |

## Getting the replay to people

Nothing about the replay is public, so people reach it through their personal link. That link is the `{{replay_link}}` [merge tag](/reference/merge-tags), which the default [follow-up emails](/webinars/follow-up-emails) already include.

They can also use their personal join link. Once the session is over, it shows that the session has ended and offers **Watch the replay** while the replay is open.

Before you set a long **Available after**, check the timing of your emails. The **Attended follow-up** and **Missed follow-up** go out 1 hour after the session, whatever you set here, so a longer delay means people who click through arrive before the replay is open. **Replay available** goes out 3 hours after the session, or when the replay opens if that's later, and moves if you change the delay.

## What attendees see

| When they open the link | What they see |
| --- | --- |
| Before the session starts | The waiting room, the same as their join link |
| After the session, before the replay opens | **The replay is on its way**, with the time it opens |
| While the replay is open | A **Watch the replay** button. Playback starts when they press it. |
| After the replay closes | **The replay has closed**, with a **See upcoming times** button that leads to your registration page |
| Replay switched off | `This session has ended.` with no replay offered. People who watched live see `Thanks for watching live` instead. |
| The session was canceled | **This session was canceled**, with **See upcoming times**. Canceled sessions have no replay. |

During the replay:

- Offers, polls and handouts follow the position in the video, so skipping ahead brings them up sooner, unless the player is locked.
- Attendees can ask private questions if you allow them, but they can't post in the chat.
- [Live chat](/run/live-chat) from the session isn't shown. Live chat is only open to people waiting for or inside a live session.
- The feedback form appears once they've reached 30 seconds into the video.

See [The replay](/attendees/replay) for the attendee's view in full.

## Switching replay off

With **Replay enabled** off, nobody can watch after the session. **Replay available** isn't planned for new registrants, and it's skipped for anyone it was already planned for, with the reason `Replay is off.` The other two follow-ups don't change on their own, and their default text points people to `{{replay_link}}`, so rewrite them under [Follow-up emails](/webinars/follow-up-emails), or the link leads to a page saying the session has ended.

Turning replay on later doesn't add the email for people who registered while it was off.

## Changing settings later

Replay settings are read each time someone opens the page, so a change applies straight away to every session, including sessions that have already run. Extending the window reopens a closed replay. Shortening it can close one that's currently open. Changing **Available after** or the video's length also moves any **Replay available** emails not yet sent.

## See who watched

Replay viewing is counted separately from live attendance, and it doesn't change who counts as having shown up.

| Where | What it tells you |
| --- | --- |
| [Registrants](/run/registrants) | A **Replay** chip for people who watched the replay but not the live session |
| [Registrant CSV export](/run/registrants#export-to-csv) | **Watched replay** and **Replay watch seconds** |
| [Overview report](/run/overview-report) | Offer clicks made only on the replay, shown as **+N on replays** |
| [Automations](/webinars/automations) | The **Opens the replay** trigger, to tag people when they start watching |

Replay viewing doesn't feed the **Who keeps watching** chart or the watch percentage automations. Those only use the live session.

## Common problems

| What you see | What to do |
| --- | --- |
| `Enter a whole number between 0 and 10080.` | **Available after** is more than 7 days. Enter a smaller number of minutes. |
| `Enter a whole number between 1 and 8760.` | **Replay window** is outside 1 hour to 1 year. Use a value in that range, or choose **Never expires**. |
| People report the replay isn't open yet | They've probably clicked a **Attended follow-up** or **Missed follow-up**, which go out at 1 hour. Lower **Available after**, or reword those emails. |
| An attendee says the replay has closed | Increase **Replay window** or change **Expiry**. The change reopens it straight away. |
