# Attendee emails and unsubscribing

This page lists everything an attendee can receive from your webinars and challenges, and what happens when they unsubscribe. To edit the emails themselves, see [Reminder emails](/webinars/reminder-emails) and [Follow-up emails](/webinars/follow-up-emails).

## What attendees receive

| Email | When it sends | Who gets it | On by default |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| **Registration confirmation** | Right after registering | Everyone | Yes. On challenges, Day 1 only |
| **24-hour reminder** | 24 hours before the session | Everyone, if that time is still ahead when they register | Yes |
| **1-hour reminder** | 1 hour before | Same | Yes |
| **15-minute reminder** | 15 minutes before | Same | Yes |
| **Attended follow-up** | 1 hour after the session ends | People who joined live | Yes. Off on challenge days |
| **Missed follow-up** | 1 hour after the session ends | People who didn't join live | Yes. Off on challenge days |
| **Replay available** | 3 hours after the session ends, or when the replay opens if that's later. Not sent when replay is off | People who missed it, or watched under 90% live | Yes. Off on challenge days |
| **Your access link** | When someone registers again with the same email | That person, at most once every 10 minutes | Always on |

So someone who registers a few days ahead and watches to the end gets five emails: the confirmation, three reminders and a follow-up. Someone who misses it gets six, with the replay email too.

If someone registers late, reminders whose time has passed are skipped, not sent late. Someone registering 2 hours ahead gets the 1-hour and 15-minute reminders only.

Your workspace needs to be able to send for any of this to happen. See [Email sending](/workspace/email).

## Why an email didn't go out

| Reason | What happened |
| --- | --- |
| They unsubscribed | All their pending emails for that registration stopped, or for the whole challenge |
| Replay is off, or has closed | **Replay available** is skipped |
| You switched the template off | Emails not yet sent for it are skipped, even if they were already planned |
| The session was canceled | Its pending emails are skipped |
| The condition didn't match | For example, someone who joined live doesn't get the **Missed follow-up** |
| They moved to another time | The old session's pending emails were canceled and new ones planned. See [Changing to another time](/attendees/thank-you#changing-to-another-time) |

## What the emails look like

Every email uses a clean layout with your [brand colour](/workspace/branding). A few details:

- **Buttons:** a link alone on its line becomes a button, such as **Join the webinar**, **Watch the replay** or **Add to calendar**. A link within a sentence stays a normal link. See [Format the message](/webinars/reminder-emails#format-the-message).
- **Footer:** your legal footer, or your workspace name if you haven't set one, followed by an **Unsubscribe** link.
- **Names:** `{{first_name}}` becomes "there" if the person has no first name, so the greeting reads "Hi there,".
- **Dates and times:** shown like "Tuesday, March 3, 2026" and "6:00 PM", in the time zone recorded at registration. If that's missing, a fixed-zone webinar uses its zone and others use UTC.

See [Merge tags](/reference/merge-tags) for all the tags. Challenge emails treat a few tags differently. See [Challenge emails](/challenges/emails#what-the-links-do-in-a-challenge).

## How unsubscribing works

Every email has an **Unsubscribe** link in its footer, added automatically. You don't need to add `{{unsubscribe_link}}`, though you can if you'd like it within your wording as well.

Opening the link doesn't unsubscribe anyone by itself, so a mail scanner following the link changes nothing. It shows a page with your name, logo, colour and footer:

- **Title:** "Stop these emails?"
- **Text:** "*(their address)* will stop getting emails about *(your title)*." For a challenge, it adds "for every day of the challenge."
- **Button:** **Unsubscribe**
- **Under the button:** "Changed your mind? Just close this page."

Pressing **Unsubscribe**:

1. Marks them as unsubscribed.
2. Cancels every email still waiting for that registration, or for every day of a challenge.
3. Shows a page headed "You're unsubscribed", saying that their address won't receive any more emails about that event, and that "Your join link still works if you change your mind." For a challenge, it says "Your challenge hub and join links still work if you change your mind."

Someone who's already unsubscribed goes straight to that last page.

**Mail app unsubscribe buttons.** Webinar and challenge emails carry the standard one-click unsubscribe information, whether you send with [FullHouse Send](/workspace/email) or your own Resend or Mailgun account. That lets inbox apps show their own unsubscribe button, which works with no confirmation page. Test emails and access link emails don't carry it.

**Security.** Each unsubscribe link is signed, so nobody can alter it to unsubscribe someone else. An unsigned or altered link changes nothing, and in a browser shows "This link isn't valid" and "It may be incomplete or out of date. Use the link in your most recent email, or contact the event host." The links don't expire.

## What unsubscribing covers

On a webinar, unsubscribing applies to **one registration**. On a challenge, it applies to **the whole challenge**.

| Situation | What happens |
| --- | --- |
| The same registration's other emails | All stopped |
| Their join link and replay link | Keep working. They can still attend |
| Another webinar, or another session they registered for separately | Still get emails. That's a separate registration |
| The same person registering again for a different session | A new registration, with emails on |
| Every other day of the same challenge | All stopped, from any day's email. See [Challenge emails](/challenges/emails#unsubscribing-covers-the-whole-challenge) |
| A day added to the challenge later | Gets no emails |
| Rescheduling after unsubscribing | They stay unsubscribed and no new emails are planned |
| The access link email | Still sends if they register again, because they've asked for it |

Attendees can't undo an unsubscribe themselves. If someone changes their mind, the join link still gets them in, and you can [resubscribe them](/run/registrants#unsubscribe-or-resubscribe-someone) if they ask.

## See who has unsubscribed

A red **Unsubscribed** label appears under the person's name in the [Registrants](/run/registrants) list and on their page. You can also [unsubscribe someone yourself](/run/registrants#unsubscribe-or-resubscribe-someone).

Unsubscribing in FullHouse doesn't remove or change anyone in [Kit, ActiveCampaign, Pinball or GoHighLevel](/connect). Emails sent by those tools follow their own lists and settings.
